May 14, 2002
NORFOLK, VA. - John Bona's RBI double in the bottom of the sixth broke a six all tie and helped the Flames of Liberty University to an 11-6 non conference victory over Old Dominion Tuesday night at Merritt Hutchinson Stadium in Lynchburg, Va. ODU is now 24-25, while the Flames are 28-21-2. Liberty took a 5-0 lead into the fourth after a grand slam homer by Kelly Knouse. ODU rallied with six runs in the top of the fourth thanks to a two-run single by Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) and three bases loaded walks and a wild pitch which plated the other four runs. With a 7-6 lead, Liberty exploded for four more runs in the seventh highlighted by Matt Hagen's solo home run. Brandon LeNoir (Ocala, FL.) and Jared Musolf (Lakehurst, NJ.) led ODU with two hits each on the evening. Joey Monahan led Liberty with three hits. Todd Mittauer got the win in relief for the Flames.
