NORFOLK, VA.-- Freshmen Steven Harris (Va. Beach, Va.) and Ricky Shefka (Kinston, NC.) led the Monarchs to a 13-2 victory over crosstown rival Norfolk State Friday night. Harris knocked in five runs on three hits, while Shefka pitched seven shutout innings with a career high nine strikeouts.

Harris singled home Allen Strick (Glen Burnie, MD.) and Brent Sollenberger (Chambersburg, PA.) in the first, singled home Dana Arrowood (Woodbridge, VA.) and Brandon LeNoir (Ocala, FL.) in the third, and doubled home LeNoir in the fourth inning. Evan Chipman (Raleigh, NC.)also had three hits on the day, while Strick knocked in three runs.

Shefka picked up his fifth win of the year as he issued no walks, and gave the Spartans just three hits. The 17 hits and 13 runs were the most for ODU this year. Earlier this year, ODU scored runs against Duke and Brown and got 15 hits in a game against Brown.

NSU scored two runs in the eighth inning on a two-run single by Bryon Talton, scoring Bradley Langston and Ryan Reddick. Langston led NSU with two hits on the day.

ODU travels to William and Mary for a 4 p.m. non conference game on Saturday. The Spartans host Savanah State in a doubleheader at 1 p.m..
