Sept. 9, 2005 Old Dominion University coaches Wendy Larry and Blaine Taylor, along with AllCoachNetwork.com and coaches all across America have teamed up to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. A major online sports auction will highlight the effort, with one hundred percent of the proceeds going directly to Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that builds homes for low incomes families. The website AllCoachesCare.com has been created to provide more information on to give coaches a place where they can make their contribution to the online auction. The auction will be held Wednesday, Sept. 14 online, with hundreds of items donated from athletic programs across the nation. Larry has donated two seats behind the bench for her opening women's basketball game against Duke on Sunday, Nov. 20, while Taylor has donated two seats behind his bench for his instate rivalry with Virginia Tech on Dec. 30. "Everyone seems to have been touched by this disaster, and the coaching community is no exception. We hope that in some small way our participation in this relief effort will help those in need and we encourage our fans to help by placing their bids on Wednesday," says Taylor. Monarch and Lady Monarchs fans can log in to www.allcoachescare.com, on Sept. 14, and bids will be taken throughout the day. "We are delighted to support this nationwide effort to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina," says Larry. "This kind of disaster relief requires a real "team effort" which is what basketball is all about." The nationwide effort is headed by committee chair Seth Greenberg, head basketball coach at Virginia Tech. "This is something that all coaches, male and female at every level must get involved with," says Greenberg who is heading up the effort among coaches. "As coaches we always talk about the team concept. If we are going to make any impact on the hurricane relief efforts, we need to come together as a team to assist all those who desperately need our help." "I can't stress that point enough. Everyone should be involved. As coaches we are always rebuilding our own programs. "Coaches Care" was created to help and now we have an opportunity to help rebuild the Gulf Coast of the United States working with the great folks at Habitat for Humanity." Others on the committee include John Brady (Louisiana State University), Brian Cleary (University of Cincinnati), Joe Dwyer (AllCoachNetwork.com), Orlando Early (University of Louisiana-Monroe), Tim Floyd (USC), Frank Haith (University of Miami) Angela Lento (AllCoachNetwork.com), Rick Stansbury (Mississippi State University), John Thompson III (Georgetown University) and Willis Wilson (Rice University). The organizing committee has already confirmed participation from many other high profile coaches, including Frank Beamer (Virginia Tech), Tom Izzo (Michigan State), Mike Krzyzewski (Duke), Lute Olson (Arizona) and Texas Tech head coach Bob Knight. All money raised through the auction will go directly to Habitat for Humanity, which will be administered by MissionFish.org, the official non-profit liaison for eBay. Sometime in late September, AllCoachNetwork.com will announce the total amount raised through "Coaches Care" to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
