Bobcat junior Jon Johasky lowered his career-best round by three strokes with a 68 on Friday.

    ST. CROIX, Virgin Islands – Ohio University’s Jon Johasky posted a career-best score in the opening round of the St. Croix Collegiate Classic to lead the Bobcats on Friday. The junior from Lower Burrell, Pa., carded a four-under 68 on the 6,809-yard, par-72 Robert Trent Jones Sr. course at the Carambola Golf Club to stand in third place after 18 holes.

    Ohio sophomore Mark Cimarolli (Pittsburgh) shot the team’s second-best score with a two-over 74, tying him for 41st out of 91 competitors. Fellow Bobcat sophomore Ryan Siekmann (Dublin) finished one stroke back with a 75 and tied for 53rd.

    Ohio junior Brian Elsea (Columbus) and sophomore Blake Russell (Dublin) both are tied for 75th after firing opening rounds of 78.

    The Bobcats are tied with Mid-American Conference rival Miami for 11th place in the three-day, 17-team tournament. Both schools posted a first-round score of 295, 11 strokes behind co-leaders Rhode Island and host Xavier.
