COLUMBUS, Ohio - Freshman Scott Mayle (Phillipi, West Va.) will have to pack his bags for next week's NCAA Championships after placing fourth in the long jump at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships this weekend. Mayle's leap of 25-10 is his best of the season and is the second-best mark in school history. His fourth-place finish was also the top performance by an Ohio athlete in the meet.

Auburn's Leevan Sands won the long jump, blowing away the competition with a leap of 27-2. Ohio State's Drew Carter and LSU's John Moffitt also placed ahead of Mayle on the day.

In the pole vault, freshman Boon Troyer (Newark) capped his first season as a Bobcat with a 20th-place finish, clearing a height of 15-7.25.

Senior Justin Kempe (Austintown) finished off his athletic career by taking 20th in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:19.61.

Mayle will be the lone member of the Ohio track team who will compete in Sacramento, California next week in the NCAA Championships.
