Ohio Swims Past Marshall, Wins Fourth Straight

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio swimming and diving team won 14 of 17 events to cruise to a 182-131 victory Tuesday evening against Marshall at the Ohio Aquatic Center. The win pushes the Bobcats' record at home to 6-0 and their overall record to 9-1, while the Thundering Herd fall to 4-7 on the season.

Ohio senior Ilse Petersen (Johannesburg, South Africa), freshman Stacey Huber (Gainesville, Fla.), freshman Amanda Cecere (Chelmsford, Mass.) and sophomore diver Ali Giordano (Pleasanton, Calif.) combined to win eight individual events, posting two wins apiece to pace the Bobcats. Petersen finished first in the 100-yard freestyle (53.10) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:08.44), Huber touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:50.43) and the 400-yard individual medley (4:38.01) and Cecere won two individual events for the second consecutive meet, finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.21) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:06.05).

Giordano placed first in both the 1-meter dive and the 3-meter dive with marks of 238.73 and 237.45, respectively. Senior diver Jamie Acks (Solon, Ohio) also tallied some points for the Bobcats, finishing right behind Giordano in second place in the 1-meter dive (214.13) and 3-meter dive (191.25).

In her only individual event of the meet, senior co-captain Emily Wylam (Yorktown, Va.) swam the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:06.52, five and a half seconds faster than the second place finisher. Wylam also teamed with sophomore Allison Schaefer (Medina, Ohio), sophomore Chelsey Bower (Bethel Park ,Pa.) and senior Mallory Rico (Mentor, Ohio) to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.90) in the opening event of the meet.

Along with swimming the third leg of the relay team, Bower also took first in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing in a time of 59.41.

Ohio plays host to rival Miami this Saturday on Senior Day at the Aquatic Center at 1 p.m. The meet will be the final home meet for nine Bobcat seniors.
