BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana scored 10 of its 11 runs with two outs, to hold on for the 11-9 win over Northwestern in a back-and-forth battle at Sembower Field in Bloomington. NU scored all nine runs in the second-through-fifth innings, as four Wildcat miscues proved to be the difference. The loss drops the Wildcats to 24-23 overall, 14-14 in the Big Ten.

Indiana jumped all over Northwestern in the first inning, scoring five runs on four hits and taking advantage of three Wildcat errors. Wildcat starter Dan Brauer (Wheaton, Ill./Wheaton-Warrenville South) threw 43 pitches, as four of the five runs were unearned.

NU answered in the top of the third, scoring two runs on three hits. Catcher Ken Padgett (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, to score Brandon Ackley (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) from third for the first Wildcat run. Left fielder Mark Ori (Niles, Ill./Maine South) followed with an RBI seeing-eye single to center. Freshman Anthony Wycklendt (Glendale, Wis./Nicolet) scored on Ori's hit. Wycklendt reached on a single to left field.

The Wildcats tied the score a five apiece in the top of third as Wycklendt hit a two-run line-drive home run over the left-field fence. It was his sixth round-tripper of the season. NU scored its first run of the inning when Ackley tattooed a double to the deepest part of the ballpark, to score Jason Krynski (Niles, Ill./Niles West) from first base. Krynski, who replaced Travis Tharp (Boulder, Colo./Boulder) at first base, singled in his at-bat.

NU took its first lead of the game, when they scored two runs in the top of the fourth inning, taking advantage of an errant pickoff attempt to third base. With runners on second and third and one out, Eric Roeder (Onsted, Mich./Onsted) and Ori scored when Hoosier reliever Kevin O'Brien's pickoff attempt sailed over the IU third baseman's head. Roeder reached on a single and Ori on an IU error.

Indiana recaptured the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs for its second five-run inning of the game. All five runs came with two outs, as Dan Pohlman (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) replaced Brauer on the mound. Pohlman started the game as the designated hitter. A perfect relay throw by Mikrut on a two-RBI double to left field cut down a runner at home for the third out of the inning.

Wycklendt led off the top of the fifth with a single to right and was quickly followed by a line-drive home run over the left-field fence by Pohlman. Pohlman's two-run blast was his sixth of the season.

The Hoosiers extended their lead to 11-9 when a two-out single to left field scored a runner from second base.

Offensively, Wycklendt finished 3-for-4 with two RBI while Pohlman drove in two as well. Ori and Ackley each tallied an RBI in the game.
