Water Polo Avenges Earlier Loss to Siena, Splits MAAC Games on Senior Day

April 17, 2005

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Senior Ellen Howe (San Diego, Calif.) scored five goals to help the Wildcats avenge an earlier season loss to Siena on Saturday at the Villanova Swim Center. Right before the win, the seniors were honored for their contributions to the team throughout their Main Line careers. Earlier, Villanova fell to Wagner, 15-7. Its overall record now sits at 12-12 overall and 3-3 in the MAAC conference.

Senior Aimee Corsiglia (Mountain View, Calif.) added three goals for the `Cats, while freshmen Carla Martinez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and Christina Dopp (Stockton, Calif.) each added two. Sophomore Taylor Schrang (Bellvue, Wash.) also added a goal for Villanova to help earn the win, which made up for an overtime loss to Siena last weekend.

Siena trailed by just two goals, 5-3, in the second quarter, but Villanova then broke open the scoring by netting five straight to jump to a seven-goal lead. After that, the Saints were unable to catch up and Schrang put the game away with her goal that made it 11-3 in the third quarter.

Senior Sarah Oberhauser (Saratoga, Calif.) added two assists for Villanova, while Martinez, Dopp, and freshman Julie Ramaley (Old Greenwich, Conn.) each added one.

The loss to Wagner featured two goals each from Howe, junior driver Kim Pare (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Oberhauser. Sophomore Nicole Sherry (Poway, Calif.) also added a goal for Villanova. Wagner ran away with the game in the third quarter when it started with a two goal lead (7-5) before scoring five straight goals to make it 12-5.

Villanova will return to action on Saturday, April 23, when it heads to Staten Island, N.Y. to face Iona and Marist for two more conference games.
