'Cats Close Out Regular Season with Victory Over St. Francis

April 7, 2004

VILLANOVA, PA. - The Villanova women's water polo team defeated St. Francis (N.Y.) by a score of 10-3 on Tuesday, Apr. 6 at the Villanova Swim Center. With the win, the Wildcats close out their first regular season under head coach Paige Cull with a 7-13 record, including a 3-2 mark in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one quarter, and stayed in control thanks to a strong team defensive effort. Jess Wells picked up the win in the cage, stopping 11 shots. In addition, 'Nova shut down the Terriers' top offensive threat, Jelena Maljkovic, holding her to just one goal.

Similar to most of the regular season, Kim Pare and Ellen Howe paced Villanova statistically. Pare had five goals, three assists, three steals and one drawn ejection. Howe contributed two goals, two assists, one steal and four drawn ejections.

Villanova University will be the site of the 2004 Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Championships, on Saturday and Sunday, Apr. 17 and 18. For a detailed list of the participating teams and game times, check back with villanova.com.
