Villanova Volleyball Beats Georgetown for their Third Consecutive Victory

Nov. 2, 2002

Box Score

Villanova, Pa. - The Villanova volleyball team won its third straight match November 2, as they defeated the Georgetown Hoyas 3-2 (27-30, 20-30, 30-22, 30-26, 15-10). The 'Cats came from two games down for the second match in a row and improve their record to 14-15 overall and 3-6 in the Big East. Once again the key to the Wildcats success was efficient hitting as they notched a .294 attack percentage and managed 15 total blocks in defense.

Four Wildcats reached double-digit kills with Kerri Sullivan leading the way with 21 on a .298 percentage. Also contributing solid games were Erin Birunas and Celine Nguyen who tallied 15 kills apiece. Nguyen and Leah Mathews led the team with 17 digs each in a strong defensive effort from all the 'Cats. Sullivan added 2 solo blocks and 3 assisted blocks in the Wildcat victory.

The Hoyas received solid play from Lauren Warner who had a game high 22 kills and 20 digs. Natasha Nguyen leads the Big East in service aces and she managed to add to her lead with four in the match to go along with 13 digs.

The Wildcats look for four in a row on Wednesday, November 6, as they travel to Towson University for their final non-conference match of the season. Villanova has been playing strong behind solid attacks and stifling defense that should carry over into their remaining matches. Following the match against Towson the 'Cats have their final two home games of the year as they welcome to Jake Nevin Field House Providence on the ninth and Boston College the following day.
