Wildcat Volleyball Comes Up Short Against the Huskies of Connecticut
Oct. 25, 2002
Storrs, Ct. - Villanova volleyball returned to Big East action against Connecticut on October 25. The 'Cats made the trek to Storrs with intentions of winning their second Big East match of the season. Unfortunately for the Wildcats the Huskies had other intentions. Villanova fell to UConn in three straight sets; 24-30, 25-30, 28-30. The loss brings the 'Cats overall record to 11-15 and 1-6 in the Big East.
The match wasn't a strong one for the Wildcats on the offensive end. Only one 'Nova player, Kerri Sullivan, tallied double digit kills with 14. The 'Cats hit for only .158 percent as a team connecting on 50 of 152 attacks and committing 26 errors. Both UCONN and Villanova showed off their defenses with each team seeing four players reach double digits in the dig category. Leading the Wildcats was freshman Celine Nguyen with 14 digs, while Leah Mathews (13 digs), Jennifer Edwards (11 digs), and Jenny Badran-Grycan (12 digs) each contributed a solid defensive effort.
Next up for the Villanova team is Big East foe St. Johns. The Red Storm are currently 14-11 overall and 3-2 in the Big East. The 'Cats will look to improve their league record and move up in the standings against St. Johns on Sunday, October 27. The next home game for the Wildcats comes on October 30 against local rival Princeton. |
