Wildcats Get Back On Winning Track Against Lehigh

Oct. 11, 2006

Final Stats

Villanova, PA - After falling twice the past weekend, the Wildcats (10-11, 3-3) got back on track with a five game victory over Lehigh (0-19, 0-5) on Wednesday night. Sophomore Alona Cherkez and Dana Tartasky each recorded a double-double in kills and digs, while two other Wildcats finished the match with more than ten kills.

Cherkez finished the match with 21 kills and 17 digs and Tartasky ended up with career-highs in kills (19) and service aces (4) to go along with 15 digs. Junior Kacy Sellers posted 12 kills, six digs and six blocks, while senior Kelly Ludwig registered a season-high 11 kills and three blocks. Sellers also added to her team-leading .311 hitting percentage by hitting .455 in this match (12 kills, 2 errors, 22 attempts).

Senior Jenna Link and freshman Chelsea Graman combined for 72 assists for Villanova, as Graman picked up 32 to lead the `Cats and Link added 29.

Villanova was too much for the Mountain Hawks in game one, with the Wildcats logging a .571 team hitting percentage in the game while Lehigh hit -.154 in Villanova's 30-14 win. Lehigh fought back to take game two, 31-29 despite never leading until the final two points. Villanova battled in game three to a 30-28 win in yet another tightly contested game with neither team able to mount a distinct advantage.

Game four would belong to Lehigh, 30-27 to force a fifth and deciding game five. As the previous three games had been, game five would come down to the wire with neither team willing to give in. After taking a lead at 5-4, Villanova would not relinquish it and held on for the 16-14 win.

Next up for Villanova is a home match on Saturday against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, starting at 2 PM.
