Former Wildcat Rhines Earns U.S. Olympic Berth in Women's Marathon
April 5, 2004 VILLANOVA, PA. - With a third place finish in the women's marathon at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in St. Louis, Missouri, on Saturday, April 3rd, former Villanova Unversity track standout Jen Rhines clinched a spot on the 2004 United States Olympic Team. Colleen De Reuck, who turns 40-years old on April 13, Deena (Drossin) Kastor, and Jen Rhines are the three women who will represent the U.S. in the marathon at the Athens Olympics. Blake Russell (who placed fourth), led for the first 17 miles, but struggled late in the race and was passed by Rhines with less than 1/4-mile to go as Rhines clinched the Olympic berth.
