Villanova Falls Short in West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Sophomore Candice Carlin (Moorestown, N.J.) won both her No. 1 singles matches but the Wildcats were unable to come away with a win and Villanova (7-13) lost to Pittsburgh on Friday, 5-2, and West Virginia on Saturday, 6-1, at the Mountaineer Tennis Complex. Carlin, whose record at the No. 1 slot now sits at 12-6, defeated Pittsburgh's Jill Williams, 6-3, 6-1. Sophomore Leighann Reilly (Voorhees, N.J.) then picked up the only other singles win for the `Cats, winning her No. 3 match over Leah Friedman, 6-1, 6-0. The Panthers took the four other singles matches and all three doubles matches for the win. Carlin also defeated Natalia Prinz of West Virginia, 6-4, 6-4, for Villanova's lone point of the afternoon. The Mountaineers also swept the doubles matches and the other five singles matches. Villanova will wrap up its season on Tuesday when it hosts St. John's at 3 p.m.
