Villanova, Pa.--- On September 29-30, the Villanova Softball team competed in the Carol Weil Tournament in Allentown, Pa. as part of its fall schedule. The Wildcats posted a 3-2 record on the weekend, winning all three of Saturday's games by a combined score of 23-0, while losing twice on Sunday, including a 1-0, eight inning contest to Hartford in the tournament finale.

The Wildcat offense showed plenty of positive signs, especially on Saturday, in which it racked up 39 hits.

Sophomore Ricci Lugo (San Clemente, Calif.) was the offensive star in Game One, a 3-0 win over Cabrini. Lugo went 2 for 4 with a RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base. Junior Sara Carlson (Langley, B.C.) homered and freshman Allison Wisniewski (Smithtown, N.Y.) finished the game with two base hits to lead the Wildcats offensively.

The Villanova offense exploded for 12 runs on 20 hits in a Game Two victory over Radford. Eight of the nine Wildcat starters had at least one hit, including sophomore Robin Flier (Lafayette, Calif.), who went 4 for 5. Carlson and Wisniewski each tallied three hits. Homeruns came from a pair of freshman, Kari Koller (Rocklin, Calif.) and Kristin Haynes (Fairfax, Calif.). Koller's second homer of the day came in Villanova's 8-0 win over St. Joe's.

In Game Three, Lugo, Flier, and Wisniewski had two hits apiece in an 8-0 win over St. Joseph's.

The Wildcat offense was shut down on Sunday, as they managed just two runs in a pair of losses to St. Joseph's and Hartford.

Villanova's pitching also shone during the tournament, with junior Theresa Hornick (Edmonds, Wash.) and sophomore Kari Singley (Irvine, Calif.) sharing the mound duties. Hornick went 2-1 on the weekend, starting games one, three, and five. She allowed just one run over 22 innings of work, striking out 21 in the process. Singley went 1-1, giving up five runs in 14 innings.

The Wildcats will be back in action this weekend, October 6-7, when they participate in the City Six Tournament in Marcus Hook, Pa. against their Philadelphia area rivals Temple, St. Joe's, La Salle, Drexel, and Pennsylvania.
