Flier Named First Team All-Northeast Region by NFCA

May 19, 2004

VILLANOVA, PA. - Villanova senior leftfielder and leadoff hitter Robin Flier (Lafayette, Calif./Acalanes) was one of 12 players selected to the 2004 National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Northeast Region softball team. Flier wound down her Main Line career in impressive fashion, leading the Wildcats with a .358 average while starting all 58 ball games.

The 2004 season was not the only one in which Flier excelled at 'Nova. She is third all-time at VU with 231 hits, fifth in runs scored with 113 and fourth with 46 stolen bases. This past season, she had 69 hits, eight doubles, one triple, one home run, 23 RBI, 19 runs scored and eight stolen bases. The hits and triples totals were team-highs.

In conference action, Flier hit .328, helping her earn Second Team All-BIG EAST honors at the league's postseason banquet.

Flier was steady in the field as well, making only eight errors in her four years. She ended her career with a consecutive games played streak of 125, and this season became one of six Wildcats in history to compile 200 hits and 100 runs scored.

At the BIG EAST Championship against Boston College, Flier hit the first home run of her college career, helping the Wildcats to a 3-1 win that staved off elimination for one more game. The 'Cats finished the season with a 32-26 record.

Sixteen additional players were chosen for the second team, and Flier was one of 11 athletes from the BIG EAST Conference placed on either team. The Northeast region is made up of schools from the BIG EAST, as well as the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and the Northeast Conference.

The selections will now move onto the All-American ballot, to be announced some time next week.
