Three Wildcats Earn All-Big East Softball Honors

May 8, 2003

Salem, Va.- At the 2003 Big East Softball Championship brunch, three Wildcats were honored with All-Big East Honors. Juniors Lisa Krueger and Ricci Lugo garnered All-Big East First Team accolades, while senior pitcher Theresa Hornick was named to the All-Big East Second Team.

Krueger, an All-Big East Second Team selection a year ago, hit .354 in conference play. In Big East games, she hit six doubles, three home runs and had 16 RBI. One of her round-trippers was a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Villanova a dramatic 1-0 victory over Seton Hall. Overall, Krueger is batting .322 with ten doubles, two triples, five homers and 31 runs batted in.

Lugo had one of the finest seasons by a Wildcat. She led the team with a .429 average, 12 doubles and three triples. Her .633 slugging percentage and .465 on base percentage were also tops on the squad. In conference play, Lugo is hitting an astounding .457 with four home runs and 13 runs batted in. She is also a perfect four-for-four in stolen base attempts.

Last season's Big East Pitcher of the Year, Hornick tallied a 1.67 earned run average in conference games. She has a 7-5 record to go along with two complete games. Opposing Big East batters only hit .223 against Hornick this season. Overall, Hornick has a 1.32 ERA and 108 strikeouts. She has thrown two no-hitters this season, making her Villanova's all time leader in that category.

The Wildcats are in action today at 5:00PM when they take on Boston College in the first game of the Big East Tournament.
