Biehl Named to Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week

Sept. 27, 2001

VILLANOVA, PA. - After already earning Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, Sept. 24, Villanova defender Michelle Biehl (RFr., Southhampton, Pa./ Archbishop Wood High School) added to her list of honors as she was named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine Elite Team of the Week for her performance last week for the Wildcat women's soccer team.

Biehl helped the `Cats shutout Virginia Tech 2-0 on Sept. 17, and blank Butler University 1-0 on Sept. 23. In addition, she assisted on the game-winning goal against the Bulldogs on Sunday.

Biehl returned to the Wildcats this season after having to sit out the entire 2000 season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee. She has not skipped a beat, however, as she has been one of the anchors of a strong Villanova defense. Through games of Sept. 23, the Wildcat defense was tied for first in the Big East with four shutouts. Biehl has been a contributor on the offensive side of the ball as well, posting one goal and two assists thus far in 2001.

Hailing from Southampton, Pa., Biehl was captain of her 1999 Archbishop Wood team that captured the Philadelphia Catholic League Championship. Following her senior season, she was named the Philadelphia Inquirer Defensive Player of the Year.
