Mid-Atlantic Women's Soccer Battle Goes to Princeton, 1-0

PRINCETON, N.J. - On a cold, windy evening in Princeton, N.J., the Villanova University women's soccer team was defeated by the Princeton Tigers, 1-0, in a battle of schools ranked among the top in the Mid-Atlantic Region. The Wildcats were ranked seventh in the region by the NSCAA coming into the contest, while the Tigers entered the contest ranked fourth in the region. With the loss, Villanova fell to 9-3-3 overall on the season, while Princeton improves to 9-1-1.
The contest went scoreless into the 35th minute of regulation, when the Tigers put the game's first goal on the scoreboard. At the 34:23 mark, the Princeton's Janine Willis sent a cross from the left towards the goal, which was headed by Krista Ariss into the back of the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Wildcats registered 10 shots after posting only four in the first half. The Villanova offense was unable to find to the net, as Princeton goalkeeper Catherine Glenn saved four shots to record the 1-0 shutout victory.
In the loss for the Wildcats, senior goalkeeper Janel Schillig stopped a game-high seven shots.
Villanova now returns home and will host Boston College on Friday, Oct. 19, at 4:00 p.m. at the Villanova Soccer Complex. |
