Villanova and No. 23 Rutgers Play to Scoreless Tie in Big East Women's Soccer Action

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. - On Wednesday, Oct. 10 at Yurcak Field in New Brunswick, N.J., the Villanova women's soccer team played No. 23 Rutgers University to a scoreless tie as neither team was able to score in 120 minutes of play.

With the tie, the Wildcats are now 8-2-3 overall on the season. The `Cats also picked up another point in Big East Mid-Atlantic Division play and finished the conference season at 2-2-2 (eight points). The Scarlet Knights are now 9-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in conference action.

Rutgers had a number of quality scoring chances, outshooting the Wildcats 26-9, but were unable to find the back of the net as the Villanova defense kept the Knights' offense off-track, and goalkeeper Janel Schillig saved six shots.

Less than three minutes into the first overtime Rutgers had a score nullified by an offsides call The Knights again had a chance one minute into the second overtime, drawing the goalkeeper out of position. However, RU was unable to convert on the open net.

Villanova will get back into action on Sunday, Oct. 14, hosting the U.S. Naval Academy at the Villanova Soccer Complex.
