Rowing Heads To Boston for the Head of the Charles

Oct. 22, 2007

BOSTON, Mass. - The Villanova rowing team returned to competition this past weekend as they headed to Boston to compete in the Head of the Charles.

"This is one of the most prestigious and toughest events to get your boats into," said head coach Jack St. Clair. "The women were absolutely fantastic in both races and I am extremely pleased with the performances of both crews."

The Wildcats were entered in two races the Club Eight and the Club Four. VU was able to get fifth out of 52 in the eights and 10th out of 32 in the fours. Both finishes guarantee a spot next season for the Wildcats in these races which is a big accomplishment for the team.

In the Eight were senior Katie Barzelatto, senior Kathleen O'Connell, senior Marissa Miraval, senior Jane Pancurak, sophomore Katie Grasing, junior Caitlin DeBarbie, sophomore Jill Pietropaolo, sophomore Katherine Sutton and sophomore Brianna Ipjian.

The four was manned by sophomore Lindsey Hamilton, freshman Melissa Nicholson, sophomore Ashley Flanders, freshman Kathryn Harkins and junior Anamary Marquez.

The rowers will next be in action this Saturday, October 27 at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, Pa.
