Lacrosse Puts Two on Patriot League List
March 7, 2006 VILLANOVA, Pa. - After a 1-1 week including a 15-14 overtime win over Iona, Villanova women's lacrosse was awarded for its effort with two Patriot League Player of the Week honors. Junior goalkeeper Jessica Brozena won Defensive Player of the Week and freshman attack Taylor Lucy was named the Rookie of the Week. Brozena went 1-1 for the week getting her first win of the 2006 campaign. The West Long Branch, N.J. native played all of the Wildcats' 126 minutes stopping 22 shots of 54 faced. She was instrumental in Villanova's 15-14 overtime win on Saturday allowing no goals in the last four minutes of overtime despite numerous shots by Iona. This is her first Defensive Player of the Week award. Lucy made her mark for the Wildcats against Iona as well. She has started all four games this season and scored five goals as well as tallied one assist. Four of her goals came against the Gaels in just four shots. Lucy scored back to back goals in the first few minutes of the game and her fourth with just 44 second remaining in regulation to go ahead before Iona put another one away. She also had one caused turnover and two groundballs in the game. The Wildcats play Drexel on Wednesday at Villanova Stadium. The game will begin at 6:00 p.m.
