Lafayette Defeats Women's Lacrosse 14-4

April 23, 2004

EASTON, Pa. - Three players scored four goals as the Lafayette women's lacrosse team defeated Patriot League foe Villanova 14-4 on senior night at Rappolt Field.

Villanova opened the scoring at 24:16 on a Cindy Koza goal. Lafayette's Katie Curtin responded with a goal of her own off a Jill Marvin assist at 21:09. The teams then traded goals, with the Wildcats' Katie Mannix scoring her first of two at 20:07 and Lafayette's Kaleigh Mountain tallying her first of the day at 16:12.

Villanova took the lead at 15:29 on a Becky Gardner goal, but Lafayette's Kim Maron scored just over a minute later to send the Leopards on a run. Marvin and Maron accounted for the Leopards' next four goals, including Maron's 100th career point, which sent Lafayette to halftime up 7-3.

Mannix recorded her second goal of the day just over a minute into the second half, but it would be the only point the Wildcats would score in the stanza.

Maron scored her fourth goal at 25:25 to spark another Leopard run. Mountain tallied her second of the day on a free position shot at 20:56 before Marvin found the back of the net once again at 20:42. Mountain scored two more unassisted goals before the half was over, while freshman Valerie Simone recorded her first collegiate point at 5:50.

Marvin closed out scoring at 2:22 off a Curtin assist to set the final margin at 10.

Lafayette goalkeeper Jaclyn Kushner played a stellar 60 minutes between the pipes, recording 17 saves, including 12 in the first half. Villanova netminder Jessica Brozena stopped 13 shots for the Wildcats.

Lafayette (4-12, 3-3) has solidified the fourth seed in the Patriot League tournament, and will play the winner of the Colgate/American contest that will take place on Saturday. The Patriot League tournament will take place on May 1-2 at the highest seed.

Villanova concludes its regular season on April 29 at Saint Joseph's.
