Villanova Rally Falls Short, Women's Lacrosse Drops 12-10 Decision to La Salle

March 24, 2004

Box Score

VILLANOVA, PA. - The Villanova women's lacrosse team battled back from an 8-3 deficit to tie the game at 10-10 before falling 12-10 to La Salle on Wednesday night in non-conference action at Villanova Stadium.

Trailing 8-3 early in the second half, the Wildcats started on a furious comeback, sparked by a free position goal by Amy Rocap and then a second Rocap tally off a Cindy Koza feed, which trimmed the score to 8-5 at 38:24.

La Salle's Kristin Davis scored her second of three goals on the night to push the lead back to 9-5 a minute later. But again, Villanova countered with goals by Bess Hanley and Lauren Ferrara, bringing the Wildcats to within two, 9-7 with 15 minutes remaining.

Kristie O'Donnell scored at 46:38 to increase the Explorer lead to 10-7, but Villanova answered with three consecutive goals to tie the score. Katie Komlo fed Rocap for her third of the game, while Kristen Morea scored unassisted and Hanley capitalized on a free position attempt at 51:51.

However, Davis responded with her third score of the game at 54:03 and Tracy Guenther added an insurance goal at 59:13 to seal the game for La Salle (2-3).

Jessica Brozena made 12 saves in goal for Villanova and Brittany Friedrich stopped five shots for La Salle. The Wildcats scored on two of 10 free position attempts, while the Explorers converted two of nine opportunities.

Villanova (1-6) returns to action on Saturday at Colgate at 1 p.m. for a Patriot League contest.
