Villanova, Pa.----- On Monday, Sept. 24, the Big East honored field hockey sophomore Christina Lugones (Oceanport, N.J.) as the Offensive Player of the Week.

Lugones' week was highlighted by a two goal performance as Villanova upset No. 14 ranked Connecticut in the 2001 Big East opener. Both goals came in the first half just over three minutes apart.

The win marked the first time Villanova defeated Connecticut since Sept. 26, 1992. Earlier in the week she added a goal versus No. 11 Penn St. and an assist in a 3-1 win over West Chester. She currently leads the team with three goals and eight points.

Villanova returns to the field on Wednesday, Sept. 26, when they travel to Piscataway, N.J., to challenge Big East rival Rutgers. Game time is set for 8:00 p.m.
