VILLANOVA, Pa.-- The Villanova field hockey team will open BIG EAST play on Sunday at 1:00 PM when they host the UCONN Huskies at Villanova Stadium. The Villanova Wildcats (3-2) are coming off a 2-0 victory over West Chester. No.6 Connecticut (6-0) has not played since their September 12th victory over Princeton. Both schools enter this game looking for their first BIG EAST victory. 'Nova is looking for its first win over a top ten opponent in school history.
Statistically, the two teams account for five of the top ten leaders in the BIG EAST. It is a huge game for both teams, with the Wildcats looking to hand undefeated Connecticut its first loss.
"The UConn game is a huge game for us," goalie Erin Scott said. "It is the first BIG EAST game and it's a great opportunity to prove ourselves and we just need to concentrate on capitalizing on opportunities."
In the win at West Chester, 'Nova stayed strong on defense, allowing the Rams only one shot on goal in the entire second half. They hope to have similar success with the Huskies.
