Mayhart Leads Wildcats Past Pennsylvania

Philadelphia, Pa. - Freshman Stephanie Mayhart (Hockessin, Del.) tallied one goal and added one assist in the Wildcats 2-1 victory over University of Pennsylvania in non-conference field hockey action. With the win, Villanova snaps its two-game losing streak and improves to 6-4 on the season as Pennsylvania falls to 1-6 overall.

Villanova jumped out to an early 2-0 lead scoring two goals in the first 16 minutes of play. Senior Stephanie Vrettos (West Long Branch, N.J.) deflected a shot by Mayhart over the head of the Pennsylvania goalkeeper. Mayhart was credited with the assist.

At the 16:12 mark of the first half, Mayhart scored her second goal of the season for the Wildcats second goal of the evening. Mayhart tipped a shot by Krissy Malchitsky (Perkiomenville, Pa.) into the back of the cage for her third point of the evening.

The Quakers responded less than three minutes later with a goal by Nikki Battiste with 13:51 remaining cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Wildcat goalkeeper Meghan Helwig (Basking Ridge, N.J.) made 10 saves, including six in the second half to help secure the victory.

Villanova is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 4, when they return to Philadelphia to face-off against Temple. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. Temple leads the all-time series 9-1.
