VILLANOVA, PA. - On Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Big East Conference's annual Women's Basketball Media Day, the Preseason Coaches' Poll along with the Preseason All-Conference team was announced. The Villanova women's basketball team was picked to finish fifth, receiving one first place vote and 112 total points.
The University of Connecticut was chosen to win the Big East in 2001-02 finishing with 11 first place votes and 167 points. Following the Huskies were Notre Dame in second with two first place votes and 155 points, Rutgers in third (143), Boston College in fourth (125) and Villanova in fifth.
Rounding out the Preseason Big East Poll was Virginia Tech (111), Georgetown (102), Miami (86), Seton Hall (75), Syracuse (59), Providence (56), Pittsburgh (41), St. John's (23) and West Virginia (19).
Wildcat junior Trish Juhline was named to the Preseason All-Big East first team. Joining Juhline on the squad were Connecticut's Sue Bird, Georgetown's Rebekkah Brunson, Connecticut's Swin Cash, Boston College's Becky Gottstein, and Notre Dame's Alicia Ratey. Bird was also chosen as the Conference's Preseason Player of the Year.
