Villanova Announces 2006-07 Women's Basketball Schedule

2006-07 Women's Basketball Schedule

VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova University Director of Athletics Vince Nicastro today announced the 2006-07 Wildcat women's basketball schedule. The Wildcats will play a 29-game schedule, including 16 Big East Conference contests and four Philadelphia Big Five match-ups.

The 2006-07 campaign tips-off at Delaware on Sunday, Nov. 12. In a quick turnaround, Villanova opens the home portion of its schedule two days later when the Wildcats host La Salle on Nov. 14. After playing at Fairfield on Nov. 17 and hosting Marist on Nov. 19, Villanova will spend Thanksgiving in Miami at the Florida International Tournament. Joining the Wildcats and host FIU in the tournament field are Tulane and North Florida. The `Cats will close out November with a road game at George Washington on Nov. 29.

December begins with a Big Five battle at Penn on Dec. 3. Big East Conference play starts on Dec. 7 when South Florida visits The Pavilion. Following a trip to Binghamton on Dec. 10, Villanova will have a 12-day layoff due to final exams. December will conclude with three-straight home games, as the Wildcats play host to Temple (Dec. 22), Loyola (Md) (Dec. 28) and Manhattan (Dec. 30). The last non conference game of the year will take place on Jan. 3 when the Wildcats travel to Big Five rival Saint Joseph's.

In Big East play, Villanova will play each conference opponent once with the exception of West Virginia who the Wildcats will play home and home. Villanova will host South Florida, West Virginia, DePaul, St. John's, Louisville, Notre Dame, Rutgers and Providence. The team's away Big East slate includes Syracuse, Marquette, West Virginia, Georgetown, Pittsburgh, Seton Hall, Cincinnati and Connecticut.

Villanova is coming off a 2005-06 season where they tallied a 21-11 record. This marked the fifth time in the last six years that the Wildcats have won 20 games or more.
