NOTES

LIFE AFTER UCONN: Dating back to the 1994-95 season, the Villanova Wildcats are 9-1 in games following the Connecticut contest. All 10 games have followed a loss to a nationally ranked Connecticut team.

RECORD FOR PERFECTION: Villanova junior guard Trish Juhline had a perfect afternoon last Saturday versus No. 1 Connecticut. In 25 minutes of action, Juhline shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, including a 4-of-4 effort from three-point range and a 3-of-3 effort from the foul line for a game-high 21 points. Her 7-of-7 shooting establishes a new school record for highest field goal percentage in a game at 100 percent. The previous record was held by Karen Hargadon who made 11-of-12 from the field for 91.9 percent versus Seton Hall on Feb. 15, 1986.

IMPRESSIVE RETURN: Junior guard Trish Juhline has been nothing short of sensational since returning from a broken foot that sidelined her for seven games, In the three games since her return, Juhline has made 18-of-33 (54.5 percent) from the floor, 12-of-22 (54.5 percent) from three-point range and 10-of-12 (83.3 percent) from the foul line for a combined 58 points (19.3 ppg.). In nine games this year. Juhline is averaging a team-best 14.2 ppg., 3.0 rpg., 2.5 apg., and 1.6 spg. From the field this season, she has made 46-of-105 for 43.8 percent and 22-of-52 (42.3 percent) from behind the arc.

LIMITING MISTAKES: Villanova has done a very good job the last three games of not turning the ball over. In the last three contests versus Notre Dame, Seton Hall and Connecticut, the Wildcats have had single digit turnovers in each game and have committed just 23 turnovers in the three games combined. Their lowest turnover game of the three came at Seton Hall when they were charged with just six. In 16 games this season, Villanova has had single digit turnovers on five different occasions. For the year, Villanova has committed 200 turnovers for an average of 12.5 per game.

TEAM BASKETBALL: In Saturday's loss to No. 1 Connecticut, Villanova tallied an assist on 15 of its 20 field goals. For the year, the 'Cats have been credited with an assist on 69.5 percent of their field goals (233 assists/335 field goals).

ON TARGET: Villanova had one of its best three-point shooting games of the season in last Saturday's loss to top ranked Connecticut. In the loss, the Wildcats were 13-of-23 (56.5 percent) from three-point range. The 13 made three-pointers tied a season-high for the Wildcats. In a 74-58 win at Penn State in the season opener, the Wildcats were 13-of-27 (48.1 percent) from long distance.

GOING TO THE GLASS: Sophomore forward Courtney Mix has been dominant on the backboard for the Wildcats this season. After 16 games, Mix is leading the team in rebounding with a 7.7 rebound per game average. Of her 123 total rebounds, 60 have been on the offensive end. The 60 offensive boards ranks second in the Big East Conference behind Connecticut's Swin Cash who has 84 offensive rebounds to her credit.

SCORERS MENTALITY: Senior point guard Mimi Riley has looked to score more in this her season season. Entering play versus Boston College on Jan. 23, Riley has scored in double figures in 12 of the last 13 games. Her best effort of the 13-game stretch came against the University of Pennsylvania when she scored a career-high 23 points. For the year, she is averaging 11.7 points per game to go with a team-best 5.1 apg., and 4.2 rpg. As a junior last year, Riley averaged 8.1 ppg., 3.7 rpg., and a team-high 5.1 apg.

131-STRAIGHT: Entering play versus Boston College on Wednesday, Jan. 23, Villanova has made at least one three-point field goal in 131-straight games. The last time the 'Cats failed to connect on a triple in a game came at Boston College on Jan. 25, 1997. Twice during this 131 game span, Villanova has tied the NCAA record for three-point field goals made in a game with 18 (vs. Penn 12/20/97/ vs. West Virginia on 1/3/00).

DIAL LONG DISTANCE: Villanova will use the three-point shot to its advantage whenever the opportunity presents itself. Entering play versus Boston College on Jan. 23, Villanova is 124-for-387 (32.0 percent) from behind the arc, while Wildcat opponents are 53-of-156 (34.0 percent) from long distance. In terms of points, Villanova has outscored its opponents 372-159 from three-point range. Villanova's best three-point shooting games of the year came in the season opener at Penn State when they connected on 13-of-27 from three-point land and in last Saturday's game against Connecticut when they made 13-of-23 from downtown. The team's lowest three-point shooting game of the year came at Temple when they were 1-of-5 from behind the arc. Villanova is currently averaging 7.7 made three-point field goals per game and averaging 24.1 three-point shots per game. Last year, the Wildcats made 228-of-660 from behind the arc for 34.5 percent. In 31 games a year ago, Villanova averaged 22.7 three-point field goals per game and made 7.3 triples per contest.

TRAINING ROOM REPORT: Two Wildcat starters are currently in the line-up despite playing with an injury. Senior center Stephanie Baker broke her left thumb in warm-ups of the St. John's game on Sunday, Jan. 6., while junior forward Nicole Druckenmiller is currently playing with an injured right foot. Baker has played the last five games with the injured thumb and in those five contests she has scored 30 points and grabbed 22 rebounds. Freshman Courtney Roantree is already on the Wildcat injury list. Roantree tore her ACL last summer and is out for the season.

BENCH PLAY: The Villanova bench has received a big boost in the last three games with junior Trish Juhline receiving her minutes as a Wildcat reserve. Juhline has helped Villanova outscore the opponents bench 76-37 over the last three games.

2001-02 DOUBLE-DOUBLES:
Mimi Riley 23 points	10 assists vs. Penn (12/11/01)
Stephanie Baker	11 points	16 rebounds vs. Rider (12/29/01)

THE 40 PERCENT MARK: One of the main reasons why Villanova has struggled to score points this year can be directly related to the team's field goal percentage. In 16 games this season, Villanova has managed to only shoot 40 percent or better from the field on four occasions. The four games where the Wildcats have reached the 40 percent plateau were versus Notre Dame (44.9%), Penn State (45.5 %), LaSalle (47.5%) and Saint Joseph's (40.0 %). In addition, the 52 percent effort in the second half against Notre Dame marked just the fourth time that the Wildcats shot 50 percent or better in a half this year.

BIG EAST RECOGNITION: Junior guard Trish Juhline (Havertown, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was honored by the Big East Conference after being named a Preseason All-Big East First Team selection in 2001-02. Juhline finished second on the team last season in scoring with an 11.1 scoring average at the shooting guard position. In addition, she made 73-of-191 from long distance to lead the Big East in three-point field goals made a season ago. She also averaged 2.8 apg., 2.5 rpg. and 1.0 spg. Thus far this year, she is averaging 13.4 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.8 apg., and 1.7 spg. From three-point range this year she is 18-of-48 for 37.5 percent. For her effort at Penn State in the season opener on Nov. 16 when she netted 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, Juhline was named the Big East Conference Co-Player of the Week.
