Villanova vs. Temple

Dec. 22, 2006

Recap |  Box Score

Villanova leads the all-time series with Temple by a 24-12 margin, although the Owls have won the past three meetings. The Wildcats were defeated 52-43 in Philadelphia last season and also dropped a 64-57 decision to the Owls at home during the 2004-05 season.

Despite today's loss, Villanova is a dominant 81-29 (.736) in Big Five games since its inception in 1979. The Wildcats have won at least a share of 10 city series titles under 29th year head coach Harry Perretta.

Briana Weiss has scored 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting (65%) over her past two games, including 5-of-10 accuracy from three-point range. For the season Weiss is averaging 6.0 points per contest while shooting .469 (23-of-49) from the field and .387 (12-of-31) from three-point range.

There were eight lead changes and 13 ties in the game, including three lead changes and five ties in the second half.

Villanova received a boost from its reserves in the game, as the Wildcats bench outscored Temple's 16-5. Weiss contributed 12 of those points in 23 minutes on the floor. The team's bench accounts for nearly a quarter of Villanova's scoring this season, averaging 14.2 points per contest.

Kamesha Hairston scored 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting in the second half after going 0-for-3 from the field and scoring just two points in the opening 20 minutes.
