STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Trish Juhline scored 23 points, including five 3-pointers, as Villanova upset No. 21 Penn State 74-58 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Juhline's fifth 3-pointer capped a 9-2 run and gave the Wildcats a 70-46 lead, their largest of the game. Villanova was 13-for-27 from behind the arc, while Penn State went 0-for-6.

The Lady Lions opened the second half with two steals, but the Wildcats answered with a 10-1 run, going up 53-36 with 14:56 left.

Katie Davis added 15 for Villanova, Stephanie Baker had 12 and Courtney Mix 10. Mimi Riley had 10 assists.

Penn State missed seven of its first nine shots and Villanova went on a 22-8 run to open the first half.

Rashana Barnes and Kelly Mazzante sparked a 7-0 run with less than 10 minutes remaining in the half, but Villanova hit long-range shots to gain a 39-31 halftime advantage.

Mazzante, who led the Big Ten in scoring last season as a freshman, scored six points on 3-for-11 shooting and sat out the final eight minutes with four fouls. Barnes led Penn State with 15 points, and Jessica Brungo added 14.
