No. 22 Wildcats Cruise By Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Katie Davis scored 23 points and Kelly Nash had 17 as No. 22 Villanova beat Syracuse 71-44 Saturday.

Villanova (17-4, 7-3 Big East) made 16 3-pointers, two short of its league record set in 2001. Davis had seven 3-pointers and Nash added five.

Trish Juhlin added 12 points with two 3-pointers for Villanova.

Shannon Perry and Julie McBride led Syracuse (8-13, 3-7) with 12 points each. April Jean added 11.

The Orangewomen made just one of their first 12 field-goal attempts against a Villanova defense that ranks sixth nationally in scoring.

Syracuse's first field goal came more than seven minutes into the game. Villanova led 11-0 at one point, then missed 17 of its next 18 shots. Syracuse managed to get as close as 14-13 before Davis and Nash made back-to-back 3-pointers.

Leading 23-18 at halftime, the Wildcats blew the game open to start the second half with seven straight 3-pointers, four of them by Davis. The Wildcats made 9-of-16 3-pointers in the second half to win their third straight game.
