Villanova, Pa.-Four different players won their singles matches and Villanova picked up three doubles wins at the Tim Berman Memorial Invitational hosted by Swarthmore College on Saturday, Sept. 3 and Sunday, Sept. 4.

The tournament was set up as a flighted round robin in both singles and doubles. In singles, eight players from each institution were divided into four flights. The players then played a round robin within their pool. The pool winners advanced to the finals. Doubles followed the same format, and no team score was kept.

In Flight B, Brian Maher defeated Sam Sidhu of Swarthmore 7-5, 4-6 (1-0).

In Flight C, John Borden split sets with Swarthmore's Kevin Shaungnessy 6-3, 4-6 before winning the super-tie breaker 1-0. Sumanth Chittajallu won a straight sets victory over Swarthmore's Shingo Murata, 7-5, 6-3.

Anuj Malhotra defeated Swarthmore's Mark Greenburg 4-6, 7-6, (1-0) in Flight D.

In doubles, Dimitri Chimerakis and Maher teamed up to beat Swarthmore's Zach Rodd and Brian Park 8-5. Charlie Farmer and Scott Fahrendorf defeated Sidhu and Shaungessy of Swarthmore 8-3, and Borden and Chittajallu took a 9-8 decision from Greenburg and J.J. England of Swarthmore.
