Wildcats Open Up Spring Season With Victories at TCNJ Invitational

On Saturday and Sunday, February 16th and 17th, at the College of New Jersey Invitational, the Villanova Wildcats picked up where they left in the fall season notching victories in both singles and doubles competition over the College of New Jersey and Bucknell University.

Highlighting Saturday afternoon's singles competition was the play of Villanova junior Ryan Devine (Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh West) who went 2-0 on the afternoon at No. 2 singles. Wildcat freshman Aaron Kusza (Wallingford, Conn./Cheshire Academy) stayed unbeaten on the year at 8-0 picking up two victories at third singles while senior Andy Herron (Ponte Verde Beach, Fla./Great Valley (Pa.) notched two wins at No. 4 singles.

Also picking up victories for the 'Cats were Andy O'Neil and freshmen Sean Gallagher and Ricardo Baraldi who each won in straight sets.

On the second day of the tournament, the Wildcats dominated their doubles competition as Villanova swept the College of New Jersey and took two of three matches from Bucknell. Juniors Brad Adams and Ryan Devine teamed up at first doubles to pick up 8-6 and 8-1 victories over the College of New Jersey and Bucknell, respectively. Senior A.J. Rohde and freshmen Ricardo Baraldi, playing at No. 2 doubles, notched two victories over their respective opponents while Herron and Kusza won their third doubles match by an 8-1 score.

The Wildcats will return to action on Friday, Mar. 1 during the spring break week when they travel to San Diego, CA.
