Leaman and Teesdale Earn Big East Honors
Sept. 24, 2001 Villanova, Pa. - A pair of Villanova juniors were cited by the Big East Conference for their efforts last week in helping the Wildcats to a pair of victories.
Junior goalkeeper Sean Teesdale (Blue Bell, Pa.) shared Big East Goalie of the Week honors with J.D. Martin of Rutgers. Teesdale allowed only one goal in 180 minutes last week as the Wildcats defeated Temple (3-1) and Pittsburgh (2-0). In the win over the Owls Teesdale made eight saves and added three more against the Panthers to post his first shutout of the campaign.
Teesdale's strong week also earned him the Philadelphia Soccer Seven Player of the Week Award. Villanova is 1-0-0 in the Soccer Seven after its win over Temple on Sept. 19.
Meanwhile, defender Stephen Leaman was tabbed Big East Defensive Player of the Week. The native of Lancaster, Pa., anchored a Villanova defense that held Pittsburgh to five shots in Sunday's win. In addition, Leaman's goal in the ninth minute lifted the Wildcats into a lead they never surrendered at Pittsburgh.
Villanova hopes to improve on its 2-3-0 overall record this Wednesday when it hosts Hofstra at 3:30 p.m.
