Villanova Road Trips Halted Due to Tuesday's Tragedy
Sept. 12, 2001 VILLANOVA, Pa. - Villanova University has elected not to play in three athletic events scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 12 due to the tragic events that took place throughout the United States on Tuesday, Sept. 11. The three games included men's soccer at LaSalle University, women's soccer at George Mason University and field hockey at the University of Pennsylvania. "We thought it was best to provide our student-athletes with a chance to reflect on the tragic events without the pressures of intercollegiate competition," said Villanova Director of Athletics Vince Nicastro. "We discussed the matter with all of our various opponents who all share our viewpoints concerning this unfortunate situation. We hope to resume a normal schedule as soon as possible." The University will continue to monitor the situation and a decision will be made at a later date as to the status of future Wildcat Athletic events. Villanova has 10 athletic events scheduled for this week with only two home contests to be played on the Main Line campus including women's tennis versus LaSalle on Thursday, Sept. 13 and men's soccer versus St. Joseph's on Sunday, Sept. 16. |
