VILLANOVA, Pa. - Christopher Wingert and Chris Corcoran scored second half goals to lead St. John's to a 2-0 victory over the Villanova Wildcats in a contest played on a warm afternoon at the Villanova Soccer Stadium. With the win St. John's improves to 5-1 overall, 2-1 in the Big East while Villanova drops to 2-5 overall, 0-2 in the Big East.

The first half was a scoreless duel and much of that fact can be attributed to the fine play of Villanova senior goalkeeper Sean Teesdale (Blue Bell, Pa.). Teesdale made six saves, including two spectacular ones, to keep St. John's scoreless despite the Red Storm's 9-1 advantage in shots for that period.

The Red Storm broke through in the 63rd minute. Angel Rodriguez's corner kicked sailed into the box where Wingert deftly headed it over the outstretched arm of Teesdale into the left corner of the net to give the Red Storm the 1-0 edge.

As Villanova pressed late, St. John's scored off a beautiful feed from midfield by Andre Schmid. Schmid led Corcoran perfectly and Corcoran broke in alone on Teesdale. His low hard shot landed in the left side of the net to make it a 2-0 final.

Bill Gaudette made one save in net to earn the victory for St. John's.

Villanova returns to action this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. when it travels to face Big East foe Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
