Men's Lacrosse Announces 2005 Team Captains

May 10, 2004

VILLANOVA, PA. - The Villanova men's lacrosse team announced its captains for the 2005 season and the team award winners from this season. Seniors-to-be Marc Creegan, Dan Fanelli, Chris Kramer and Jon Urbana will serve as the Wildcat captains.

An All-CAA Second Team honoree, Creegan led the Wildcat offense with 26 goals in addition to eight assists. Creegan ranked among the top five in the CAA in goals per game and sits ninth all-time in career goals at Villanova.

Fanelli and Kramer proved vital to the team success this season, as Fanelli scored 11 goals and dished four assists, including a hat trick in the conference semifinals against Delaware. Kramer has helped to solidify the defensive midfield position and has tallied six goals and two assists.

Urbana was named the CAA Defensive Player of the Year this season after helping the Wildcats to a 7.59 goals per game defense. A preseason All-America Honorbale Mention, he picked up 40 ground balls on the season. Urbana was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team.

Along with the captains, the Wildcats announced senior midfielder and All-CAA First Team honoree Matt Lucas as the team's most valuable player. He finished third on the team with 20 goals and won 49-percent of his face-offs.

Senior attacker Richie Kratz was honored with the Jim Jones Award for loyalty, courage and dedication. Kratz ranked second on the Wildcats in scoring with 38 points and earned All-CAA Second Team accolades as well as All-Tournament honors.

Freshman defenseman Paul Genovese was honored as Rookie of the Year, starting all 15 games on close defense, while junior defenseman Garrett Wells was tabbed Most Improved Player, also stepping into a starting position this season.

The Wildcats finished the season at 12-3, which marks the most wins by a team in program history.
