Men's Lacrosse To Take On No. 11 Delaware

April 8, 2004

VILLANOVA, PA. - Saturday's Game: Villanova travels to No. 11 Delaware for its third CAA game of the season. The Wildcats enter the contest with a 7-2 overall record and 1-1 conference mark and are coming off a 20-11 defeat to No. 15 Towson on Saturday. Delaware stands at 8-2 and 1-0 in the CAA after edging out Hofstra, 12-10, on Saturday. This is the third meeting between the two squads, with Villanova holding a 2-0 advantage in the series.

Heido's Hat Trick: After scoring three goals through Villanova's first eight games, freshman Eric Heidenberger lit up the scoreboard with three tallies against Towson. His hat trick was the seventh for the Wildcats' this season. Heidenberger leads all Wildcat rookies with six points on six goals.

O'Donnell's Offense: Sophomore Brendan O'Donnell registered a career-best four points with a goal and three assists against Towson. O'Donnell leads the team with 12 assists to go along with six goals for 18 points. His helping hand leads the CAA, as he is averaging 1.3 assists per game.

Canuso's Cage: Picking up right where he left off in 2003, sophomore goalie Joseph Canuso continues to be strong in the pipes. His 7.16 goals against average and his .617 save percentage both lead the CAA. His numbers also place him in the top 10 in the nation in both categories. Canuso led Division I in GAA in 2003 with a 6.06 average.

Defensive Showdown: Saturday's game will feature the CAA's top two defensive teams, who also happen to be No. 9 and 10 in the nation. Delaware has a slight edge, giving up 7.20 goals, while Villanova is nipping at its heels with a 7.33 average.
