VILLANOVA, PA. - On Thursday, Dec. 20, the Atlantic 10 Conference announced its 2001 Academic All-Conference Team. Villanova University placed five on the squad, including senior wide receiver Murle Sango, senior linebacker Joe Keating, senior defensive lineman Willie Lewis, sophomore linebacker Ryan Breeden, and sophomore linebacker Carmen DeFrancesco.

A senior Education major, Sango caught 67 passes for the Wildcats in 2001, totaling 728 yards and four touchdowns.

Keating, a senior Communications major, finished third on the team in tackles this season with 60. He also posted 8.5 tackles for a loss, and 2.5 sacks.

A senior Engineering major, Lewis came back from an injury suffered in 2000 to have yet another outstanding season. He registered 32.5 tackles, six tackles for a loss and 4.5 sacks.

Breeden, a sophomore Finance major, tallied 24 tackles, one tackle for a loss and one interception in 2001.

A sophomore Education major, DeFrancesco made 9.5 tackles including eight solo stops in 2001.
