Wildcat Football Moves Up To No. 18 In National Rankings

The Villanova Wildcats moved up two spots to No. 18 this week in The Sports Network I-AA Top 25. Villanova, who began the year at No. 20 in the preseason poll, opened its season on Thursday, August 30 with a convincing 38-14 win over the visiting Colgate Raiders.

Villanova earned 677 points in this week's poll. Southwest Texas State is No. 17 with 822 points. Georgia Southern stayed at No. 1 with 2,291 points followed by Montana with 2,206 points, Appalachian State with 2,038 points, Hofstra with 1,970 points and Youngstown State who rounds out the top five with 1,775 points.

Joining Villanova and Hofstra from the Atlantic 10 in this week's poll is Richmond at No. 13 with 1,159 points, Delaware at No. 15 with 986 points, Rhode Island at No. 19 with 477 points and William & Mary at No. 23 with 389 points.

Villanova returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 8 when they host Northeastern in an Atlantic 10 contest beginning at noon.
