Transcript of Randy Foye's ESPN Chat

Feb. 17, 2006

VILLANOVA, Pa. - On Friday afternoon senior guard Randy Foye of he men's basketball team sat down for a live chat hosted by ESPN.com. A transcript of Foye's chat session appears below.

Foye leads the team in scoring this season and his contributions have helped fourth-ranked Villanova to a 20-2 overall start, including a 10-1 mark in Big East Conference play. The Wildcats will face Georgetown (17-6, 8-4 Big East) on Sunday afternoon from the Pavilion.

Randy Foye Chat Transcript

Randy Foye: (12:11 PM ET): I'm here and ready to go!

Bretzky (Hoboken, NJ): Where do you prefer to play the home games: Pavilion or Wachovia Center? How great would it be to play rounds 1 and 2 in Philly for the NCAA's?

Randy Foye: (12:12 PM ET): I feel more comfortable at the Pavilion because we practice here everyday and I know the rims. I think my shooting percentage went up in the Wachovia Center but I know everything about the Pavilion and the rims.

Pat (Roxborough, PA): Randy, last year you flirted with the idea of leaving early and turning pro. I think everyone can agree you made the right decision in coming back. I am wondering though how difficult a decision it was for you and what scouts were telling you about where you would have gone in last year's nba draft?

Randy Foye: (12:13 PM ET): It wasn't a difficult decision. I knew I was coming back but I did flirt with it to see what people thought of me. Most of the scouts told me I would have gone in the 20-30 range.

Chris, boston ma: Randy, How do you feel about Coach Calhoun's comments after the game that the refs were favoring Nova?

Randy Foye: (12:14 PM ET): I don't know. I guess that's just how he felt. You're always upset after a loss. But we knew we just had to play tougher than them and that's what we did.

Dewey (San Francisco): Who has the more lady fans... you or Ray?

Randy Foye: (12:14 PM ET): I'd say I have more. If you look around in the crowd you will see more women with my jersey on!

Sean (Boston, MA): Do you think getting the ball inside is becoming a more usable and potent option in the offense instead of relying on 3s?

Randy Foye: (12:15 PM ET)

I think getting the ball inside is really important for us to keep winning out and go far in the Tournament. If you have an inside out game you can go far. But we also have to be strong shooters on the perimeter which we do.

Dan (Edison, NJ): Randy, Every time I have seen a Nova player interviewed this year, he always refers to playing "Villanova Basketball." What exactly does this mean?

Randy Foye: (12:16 PM ET): That's just playing hard and smart. With pride. That is who we have built the foundation here. We just play smart basketball. We play for what is on front of the jersey, not on the back.

Garrett (Roanoke, VA): What does it feel like to beat the #1 team in the country?

Randy Foye: (12:17 PM ET): It's a great feeling. We knocked off the No. 2 team in Kansas my junior year and to beat the No. 1 team is just an amazing feeling. It took four years of hard work to get to that point. It wasn't like we upset them, it was just one great team beating another great team. People said you can't win with four midgets but we showed we can beat anybody.

Jimmy: Why did your fans storm the court after your win against UConn??? Did they expect you guys to get killed that when you won it was an overwhelmingly exciting event?

Randy Foye: (12:18 PM ET): That's a great question. I wondered why they stormed the court as well. I guess they did it because they have been with us through the ups and downs and games against UConn always come down to the last minute and we've lost in the past. I guess they were just really happy to win and that's why they rushed the court.

Joe: West Hempstead, NY: Randy, What must Villanova do against Georgetown on Sunday?p>

Randy Foye: (12:19 PM ET): We just have to be solid and play together. We have to play our way and not their way. If we are aggressive on both ends we will be fine.

Chris, boston ma: How do you feel about Coach Wright's new contract? I personally could not be any happier as a Nova fan. What is he like to play for?

Randy Foye: (12:20 PM ET): I only have a month and a half left to play for him. That's too bad. He's a great coach. He is so familiar with everything around here, his family is from around here, I'm just really happy for him because I know how much hard work he has put in for us as a team.

Joe (Seattle, WA): 1) Is there anything you cannot do on the court? 2) Who wins 1 on 1, you or Lowry?

Randy Foye: (12:21 PM ET): I can do pretty much everything. I would have to say I would win a one-on-one. In the summer we play a lot of one-on-one and I always get him. Always.

Kevin (Philly): Randy I know you are tired of call the basketball questions, so what does the man with the killer cross over like better, pats or geno's?

Randy Foye: (12:22 PM ET): Pats.

massie (pnc center, cincinnati): Randy, How do you like the additions to the Big East this season? Is Cincinnati's Eric Hicks a monster, or what?

Randy Foye: (12:22 PM ET): It's like the old Big East in the early 80s. Everybody is so tough. On any given night you can lose if you don't bring it.

Aaron (Seattle): Who is the best player in the nation? JJ Redick or Adam Morrison? Or, do you think you top both of them?

Randy Foye: (12:24 PM ET): To be honest, I think Rudy Gay is the best in the nation. It seems like he holds back sometimes because there is so much talent on his team. He can rebound, shoot, he has a mid-range game, he has it all. Out of JJ and Adam, I would say JJ has him because of who he plays against every night. I think he plays tougher competition day in and day out. Everybody gamesplans against him but he still produces. He's just so tough. Morrison is good too, I just don't think he sees the same competition.

AD, Villanova, PA: Your teammate Chris Charles aka FairInHeight is a rapper on the side. What do you think about his flow?

Randy Foye: (12:25 PM ET): Yes. To be honest, we listen to lots of rap and Chris is better than 90 percent of the rappers out there. He doesnt' rap about guns and drugs and stuff, he's talking about what is really happening in the world. He's really smart.

Mike from Cleveland: Randy, we all know you're focused on the season right now, but tell me, (and you know you've thought about it) what's the first toy you're going to buy yourself when you sign that NBA contract?

Randy Foye: (12:26 PM ET): (Laughing) If it happens, I want to take care of my grandma and make sure she is comfortable. I just want her to have whatever she wants and needs.

Greg (Philly): Have you guys spoken with any members of the 1985 Villanova team? If so, what advice did they give you?

Randy Foye: (12:27 PM ET): I met all of them! They always tell us how good they are. They were around my freshman and sophomore year and always were telling us about the potential we had and to keep working hard at it.

Russ (Dyersville, IA): Do you ever play March Madness and use yourself, or do you use other teams?

Randy Foye: (12:27 PM ET): I always play with myself. We play each other around here. Sometimes Allen and I will both play as Villanova and we'll both score as ourselves.

Team Jiggie: Are you the best player ever out of The Bricks?

Randy Foye: (12:28 PM ET): I can't say that. Shaq's family is still there and he's easily the best player out of The Bricks.

Jim (Basking Ridge, NJ): Who's your favorite player to watch, college or pros?

Randy Foye: (12:30 PM ET): Dwyane Wade. I played against him my freshman year and he was just so athletic and could jump. He could do it all. I don't remember him being able to shoot very good but now his jumpshot is out of this world. In college I love watching the guards on my team. I get caught up watching them during games sometimes. I'm thinking ''man, that was nice!''

Rick: What kind of car does Jay Wright drive?

Randy Foye: (12:31 PM ET): He has a new Range Rover!

Russ (Dyersville, IA): Who's NBA game is your game most comparable to?

Randy Foye: (12:32 PM ET): A lot of people say Gilbert Arenas but you never really know until you get to that level.

Katie (Harrisburg, PA): Can Mike Nardi dunk?

Randy Foye: (12:32 PM ET): Yes, he can dunk. Actually, it's weird, he can't dunk with his right hand though. He has to do it with his left.

Mike, NY: Where would you guys be right now if Sumpter was healthy?

Randy Foye: (12:34 PM ET): I think we would be No. 1 in the country. Nobody would beat us if we had him healthy. The firepower we have coming off the bench would be too much for other teams. But everybody on this team knows their role and plays their part so we're getting by.

Donovan, Philly: What's your take on T.O.?

Randy Foye: (12:35 PM ET): I just think T.O. is a comedian. Everything he does is funny to me. I think sometimes he says things that he knows are not right, but he'll just keep saying it. After he says it, I think he knows it's not right but by then it is too late. I think deep down inside he's not like that.

Dave (Nova Nation): Could you talk a little about the "V" gesture you guys give towards the student section at the end of every home game?

Randy Foye: (12:35 PM ET): That is for our fight song. We just put up the V to let them know how much we appreciate the chants and everything during the game.

Dewey (Villanova, 2000):

Randy Foye: (12:36 PM ET): Ridiculous. That's all I said. Ridiculous. How can a team let a guy get 81? I don't care how hot he was. There's no way.

Jeff (Rutland VT): Randy, what do you do for fun? Do you hunt or fish or anything?

Randy Foye: (12:37 PM ET): We go bowling, go to movies, just hand out. We also play video games. The last good movie we saw was Glory Road.

Mike (Los Angeles, CA): Hey Randy, How has the atmosphere around campus changed as the team has progressed over the last four years. I have to imagine there was some impatience during the .500 seasons, but over the past 18 months, what's it been like on the Main Line?

Randy Foye: (12:38 PM ET): It's been ridiculous. Everywhere we go people know who we are. Sometimes they just look at me like I'm in a fish bowl. I actually like it better when people say HI to me. It's been a big change since my freshman year.

M.Kearns (NY): Alot of people say I look like Screech Powers from Saved by the Bell. Who do people say you look most like?

Randy Foye: (12:39 PM ET): My teammates try to be funny and anybody they see that has my complexion, even cartoon characters, they will say I look like them. There is a Mountain Dew commercial with an owl and that I look like the owl.

Joseph (Towanda, PA): Do you think the 4 gaurd line-up Villanova uses might catch on to other schools?

Randy Foye: (12:39 PM ET): I think so. Everybody we play against tries to use it against us. They use it to guard us and will bring the big men out on offense to try and get mismatches.

Jon (Malvern): What's your most memorable game?

Randy Foye: (12:42 PM ET): I think last year beating Boston College. It was a great feeling for me beating them at home. The atmosphere was ridiculous. But the UNC game was the most memorable.

Thanks to all my fans out there. You have all been so loyal and dedicated. I just appreciate you logging onto this chat. I have much love for all of you. Take care and we'll try and do this again sometime.
