PANTHER SENIORS UNI will honor seven seniors Sunday, all of which have had a large impact on the Panther soccer program. Jackie Gielau: A second-team All Missouri Valley Conference honoree a year ago, Gielau led the 2006 Panthers in points, goals and shots-on-goal despite sustaining a season-ending injury late in the season. The senior is tied for eighth on the all-time UNI goals list with four. Jenna O'Hara: O'Hara has appeared in 63 games in more than three years as a Panther and will likely crack the top five in UNI history in total games played later this season. A solid defender, O'Hara has been instrumental in the back for UNI's defense over the last three years. Heidi O'Mara: As UNI's starting goalkeeper for the last two seasons, O'Mara compiled the second best goals-against average in school history. O'Mara has tallied four shutouts in her career, including back-to-back shutouts against Wisconsin-Green Bay and IUPUI this season. Meghan Schoeberl: One of two team captains this season, Schoeberl is a tough midfielder and a solid leader. Schoeberl has played in 56 games as a Panther and led the team in assists a year ago. The senior tallied an assist in UNI's 1-0 win over Wisconsin-Green Bay this season. Amy Seubert: A 2006 second-team All Missouri Valley Conference selection and a 2005 Honorable Mention selection, Seubert also is a Panther captain this season. Seubert has tallied a goal and an assist this season and has two goals and six assists for her career. Allie Sowell: Sowell has played in 62 games throughout her career and will likely join Jenna O'Hara in the top five of the UNI all-time games played list. Sowell has tallied three assists in her career, including one this season against South Dakota State.
Krista Thorley: Thorley has tallied 322 saves during her career, including a Missouri Valley Conference best 115 in 2005. Thorley has played the second most minutes in-goal and has tallied the second most saves in Panther history. EVANSVILLE PURPLE ACES With last week's offensive and defensive players of the week and a 7-2-1 record, the Purple Aces are the class of the Missouri Valley Conference at the moment. Reigning MVC Player of the Week Kayla Lambert leads both the Evansville offense and the conference in goals (7) and points (16), and netted a hat trick last friday. Kaitlynn Radtke and Heidi Gray rank second and third, respectively in the conference for assists, and have funnelled the ball to Lambert and Mia Tofano. Goalkeeper Jessica Sumner, also a former MVC Player of the Week honoree, has been outstanding in-goal for the Purple Aces. The senior has allowed just two goals in 223 minutes, but splits time with regular starter Theresa Bagby. The Purple Aces are coached by last year's MVC Coach of the Year Chris Pfau. NORTH DAKOTA FIGHTING SIOUX The 5-5-1 Fighting Sioux have scored 19 goals while allowing 15 in 11 games. Forward Megan Tracy leads North Dakota with five goals, three of which were game-winners, on just 14 shots. Lauren Herrmann and spot-starter Mandi Boehmer have both contributed three goals with Herrmann also leading the team in shots (29). Herrmann and Lara Traczyk lead the Fighting Sioux with three assists each. Erin Pederson and Lauren Sera have split time equally in-goal for North Dakota. Pederson has started five games and allowed six goals while tallying 35 saves. Sera has allowed nine goals in six games played and has stopped 30 shots on the year. The Fighting Sioux are coached by third-year head coach and 2005 North Central Conference Coach of the Year Brock Thompson. |
