Panther Women Finish Second in UMKC Kenneth Smith Classic
Oct. 17, 2006
The Panther women's golf team finally did something they have been trying to do all season by having all five players shoot in the 70s. Unfortunately it was not enough to take first place. Oral Roberts beat them out by eight strokes today to take first place. The Panthers shot 310 again today for a final score of 620, which ended up being ten strokes out of first place. Today the team was led by Molly Schemm who shot a 76 and finished in a tie for 10th. Close behind her was Stef Nelson who shot a 77, and finished tied for 5th with fellow teammate Emily Heseman, who shot a 78 today. Heather Frye and Ann Arnason both finished with rounds of 79. Head coach John Bermel said, "Today the difference between winning and getting second was mainly our putting. We had a few too many three putts. However, it is very encouraging to have all five girls shoot in the 70s. I can not remember a time since I have been here that we have had our whole team shoot in the 70s." The weather was better for the golfers in their final round today. It was cloudy, but the temperature was warmer and the rain held off. The Panther women's golf team has next week off. They will be using that time to practice and rest for their meet the next week. They will be heading to the Bradley Invitational where they will face the Missouri Valley Conference teams, some whom they have not seen this season thus far.
