Several athletes with University of Northern Iowa ties have been in competition this weekend at the United States Outdoor Track and Field championships.
Panthers rising sophomore Raven Cepeda finished in 11th place in the men's junior decathlon with 6,257 points. Cepeda was in position to possibly win the competition before no-heighting in the eighth event, the pole vault. Cepeda has a personal best of 16-6 3/4 in the pole vault.
Dirk Homewood finished ninth in the finals of the 400 meters, posting a time of 46.15. 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Jeremy Wariner won the event in a time of 44.20, with four runners coming in below 45 seconds.
UNI rising sophomore Terrance Reid finished fourth in the fianls of the junior 400 meters in a time of 47.00. Justin Oliver was the winner in 46.26.
Former Panther All-American Joey Woody finished seventh in his semifinal race of the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 49.96, but did not advance to Sunday afternoon's finals.
