Womens Golfer Jackie Heslop Among Top 10 At Iowa Intercollegiate,
Huskies In Seventh
Iowa City, IA Jackie Heslop (Pequat Lakes, MN / Pequat Lakes) turned in one of her best performances of the young golf season as she shot a 6-over-par 78 to move into 10th place following Northern Illinois Universitys second round of play at the University of Iowa Intercollegiate womens golf tournament Saturday afternoon in Iowa City, IA. After opening the tourney with an 85, Heslop jumped up the leaderboard by producing her lowest score of the season and the sixth best score of the second round. Heslops previous best rounds were the back-to-back 81s which she shot earlier in the week at Western Illinois to help the Huskies claim their first tournament win since the 1994-95 season. Sophomore Lisa Bailey (Decatur /Warrensburg-Latham) also continues to perform well as she stands second on the team and 18th overall with rounds of 81-85--167. After winning her first career collegiate event on Tuesday at WIU, Bailey has remained steady and is just three shots removed from joining Heslop in the top 10. We got a little bit better today and we made up a few shots on a couple of the teams ahead of us, but we didnt improve at the rapid rate I would have liked, head coach Pam Tyska said. We got a great round from Jackie Heslop, but we need the supporting cast to come forward. This is a difficult golf course, one of the more challenging we have faced, so we are seeing some new things. We just have to continue improving in Sundays final round. Jackie Bailey (Decatur /Warrensburg-Latham), Abbie Many (Mt. Prospect / Mt. Prospect) and Irish Whalen (Hanover / River Ridge) are tied for 34th to round out the Huskie scorers. Bailey and Many each shot back-to-back 87s, while Whalen opened with an 86 before finishing round No. 2 with an 88. The host Hawkeyes lead the event with rounds of 320-311--631 by six shots over Northern Iowa. Hawkeye golfer Liz Bennett leads all individuals with a two-round score of 147, which included a 2-under-par 70 in the second round. The final round of play at the Iowa Intercollegiate is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. SECOND ROUND
