Northern Illinois Women’s Golf Slips To Sixth After Second Round Of MAC Championships

Indian Springs, OH — Northern Illinois’ women’s golf team battled through adverse weather conditions that included blustery winds and near-freezing temperatures to shoot 342 and finish sixth after the second round of play at the 2005 Mid-American Conference Women’s Golf Championships.

The Huskies, who shot a school record 307 in the opening round, slipped behind Toledo, which moved into fifth by 10 strokes over NIU. Kent State continues to lead the nine-team event after shooting a second round 323. The Golden Flashes carry a 13-shot advantage over Ohio University heading into Sunday’s finale and appear to be on track for their seventh consecutive league crown. Ball State’s Katie Sundberg shot a 5-over-par 77 to claim the individual lead. Sundberg leads Western Michigan’s Jenna Walther by one shot.

Jackie Heslop leads Northern Illinois and is 11th overall after carding an 80. Heslop, who stands just one shot out of the top 10, entered Saturday’s action in 17th, but moved up the standings and is in position for the highest MAC Championships finish of her career.

Lisa Bailey is second among the Huskies and tied for 20th overall after recording an 84. Bailey is followed by her older sister, Jackie Bailey, who shot 88 to tie for 26th.

Action at the 2005 Mid-American Conference Women’s Golf Championships concludes on Sunday with the final 18 holes teeing off at 8 a.m.
