Oct. 4, 2007
DeKALB, Ill. - The Northern Illinois men's golf team will compete in the prestigious Windon Memorial Classic Oct. 7-8 at the Lake Shore Country Club in Glencoe, Ill. The tournament features some of the nation's top teams and has hosted such names as Tiger Woods, Luke Donald and Casey Martin in past years. "The Windon Memorial is a great tournament and has been rotated through some of the best courses around the North Shore of Chicago," head coach John Cleary said. "This is a very prestigious event that has been around for over a decade." A total of 13 teams, four of which finished the spring 2007 season ranked in the top 50 of the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, are scheduled to participate in this year's event. The competition will consist of 54 holes of golf -- 36 on Sunday and 18 more on Monday with a practice round on Saturday. The Huskies will be part of a field that includes DePaul, Indiana, Kansas, Kent State, Marquette, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Purdue, host Northwestern, and defending champion SMU. "This is an opportunity for us to play against some great teams and we'll get to see how we measure up," Cleary said. "The tournament will be a chance for us to step up against some of the best teams in the country." Live results will be available at golfstat.com.
