Huskies Conclude Fall Season at Wolverine Invitational
Nov. 6, 2007
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Northern Illinois' Alex Wagner (St. Charles, Ill./East) led all MAC competitors and finished in a 17th-place tie at the Wolverine Invitational, played in Florida and hosted by the University of Michigan. The Huskies concluded their fall season with a ninth place finish at the tournament and a team score of 917 (305-301-311). Wagner finished with a three-round score of 236 (77-72-77) to lead the NIU contingent. Andrew Frame (Manteno, Ill./Manteno) posted a final score of 231 (73-80-78) to tie for 37th and was closely followed by Tim Kay (Bartlett, Ill./Bartlett), who totaled 232 (75-80-77) and tied for 39th. "We struggled today we couldn't get anything going," said head coach John Cleary. "Our scores were high today and the course played tough as well." Zach Jecklin (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington) completed his three rounds with a score of 234 (80-75-79) and Greg Bauman (Crystal Lake, Ill./Central) totaled 237 (81-74-82) for the tournament. Michigan finished first with a team score of 872 to lead a field that featured six ranked teams. "Overall we had a good fall even though we did not finish as we would have liked," Cleary said. "It is hard to evaluate ourselves against the caliber of competition we faced and the difficulty of the courses we played but that can only help us in the spring. Our team posted some good low scores, especially our 282 at Belmont, and we got a lot of contributions from a lot of different people along the way. Everyone played well at different times throughout the fall, but we were unable to all play well in the same tournament. We'll keep learning and grow from our experience as we head toward the spring." The Huskies are scheduled to begin their spring slate on Feb. 16 with a dual match against Northwestern and Florida Gulf Coast in Naples, Fla.
